A local Boy Scout has earned the rank of Eagle Scout thanks in part to his efforts to beautify and improve the campus of the VFW National Home for Children.
Ben Nichol of Mason, Michigan, planned, organized and led fellow scouts in making various improvements in and around the Scout Cabin on the National Home campus. Upgrades included more energy-efficient lights, replacing and resealing windows and installing a ceiling fan. Outside improvements included gutters and downspouts, brush cleanup around the lake and a new flagpole, adding to the patriotism and beauty of the area.
“Scouting has deep roots at the National Home that go back many years,” said National Home Facilities Director Todd Marriott. “Ben’s improvements to the Scout Cabin and the surrounding property will help ensure its continued use by not only our residents but also for many Scout troops for years to come.”
